On the day before our Nation's birthday, let your children explore what life was like in the new Federal city in the early years of our new country! Visitors on Family Tour Day will experience the historic Gadsby's Tavern Museum, 134 North Royal Street, through our Junior Docent tours. Junior Docents, volunteers from grades 3 through 7, will be stationed at each stop on the tour, including the taproom, bedchambers, ballroom, assembly room and dining room. Between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., tour at your own pace and let your children learn about history – and the place where George Washington dined and danced – from other kids! Is That a Pic-A-Nic Basket?
The Workhouse kicks off its month-long salute to the military with an Arts & Stripes Picnic featuring a curated exhibit on military art, interactive art demonstrations, youth and family activities, picnic food and drink and other fun outdoor activities. A patriotic concert from the New Dominion Choralers will be featured, along with a keynote address by Congressman Gerry Connolly and a musical performance by the Navy's premier jazz ensemble, The Commodores. 2 to 9 p.m. Workhouse Arts Center. $5 suggested donation. Fairfax County Offering Parents Free One-on-one Meetings to Discuss Concerns about Children
The FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will again be offering Summer Parent Clinic. Parents will have an opportunity to schedule a 45 minute consultative appointment with a School Psychologist or School Social Worker. Supportive consultation is available for parents if your child might be anxious, not sleeping well, a target of bullying, experiencing other social or emotional issues, or in need of assistance with peer relationships. School Psychologists and School Social Workers will be available for assistance in identifying community resources, guidance on how to manage challenging behaviors, as well as how to work collaboratively with the school team around issues of academic or behavioral concern.
